Touch someone today,
but let it be a touch of love,
the way you would want someone
to touch you.
THE FACTS
The African American HIV / AIDS community is the most under served
population in Summit County.
There is no agency within Summit County doing work that targets African Americans with HIV / AIDS and their traditional, nontraditional families.
African Americans make up 12% of the population, yet 25% (1 out of every 4) of all U.S. HIV / AIDS cases are African Americans.
AIDS doesn't discriminate. Anyone can get it, and anyone can have it. If you have put yourself or your partner at risk, get tested. Anyone at the Health Department or your City's Clinic can give you information about getting a free anonymous AIDS test.
WHAT IS PROJECT DIVERSITY?
Project Diversity is an attempt to bridge the gap between the underserved
African American HIV / AIDS population and the African American community.
Project Diversity attempts to accomplish this by:
Helping to create and foster open and positive lines of communication between African Americans with HIV / AIDS and the African American community.
Avidly recruiting volunteers from persons and churches of the African American community to ensure a source of social and emotional support to those inflicted with HIV / AIDS.
Create and make readily available resources and educational materials which are culturally specific and sensitive.
HOW YOU CAN HELP!
There are many ways you can help. A few of which include:
Becoming a trained buddy. By volunteering a few hours a week, you can make a difference in the quality of life for someone with HIV / AIDS.
By spreading the word about the program and encouraging family, friends and your church to become actively involved.
It's important to keep in mind that the persons inflicted with HIV / AIDS
are our Family, Friends, Brothers, Sisters, and in some cases, Mothers and Fathers.
It is imperative that we as a community come together and help those souls who
are lost, isolated, hurt and / or suffering.
If you have any of these symptoms, see a doctor
