We arrived at 1:30 am, werre greeted by and extremely rude fellow at the door, who did not tell us how much the cover was, simply took our twenty dollar bill and ushered us past him with a wave of his hand. He charged us an exorbitant $10 apiece for one hour of dancing and a champagne cocktail that was not even available because the bar had run out by the time we arrived. When I went back up to him to ask him if the VIP card I had would entitle us to any discount, he took it from my hand and threw it in the garbage. Never a word was spoken to me and I was dismissed again with the wave of his hand. I did mention the incident to the bartender, who apologized and said this wasn't the "regular guy." I do not know if this gentleman (using that term very loosely) treated me in this fashion because I am a woman, because I am a lesbian, because I was in a gay bar, or because I was simply in his way at that moment. I do believe, however, in a little thing that gets swept under the mat far too often. It's called customer service and I think I deserve a little. This experience is just an example of the way gay businesses treat their own people sometimes. We always seem to find new ways of charging our own brothers and sisters outrageous amounts of money for gay services and products...simply because we can. There is a market for it. There is a need. As gays and lesbians we want to spend our money and time in our own community. And our gay businesses have every right to make the almighty dollar, as much as those in the majority culture. But is there no limit? Where does it end? However, they are taking a poll on what the public thinks they should do regarding CONTINUING sponsorship of the show. You can call to let them know that you think they SHOULD RETAIN THEIR SPONSORSHIP, simply by dialing 800-992-1997. When you get through, go through the first list of options (party's ext. #, etc.) and stay on the line "for an operator." You will then be offered another list of options - press 1 for their Media / PR line; 2 for their "Ellen" line; and finally 2 to DISAGREE with withdrawal of sponsorship from the show. You don't talk at any time, your vote is recorded when you press the second 2. It's EASY, FAST and FREE.
