The presentation is a mix of dramatic monologues, poetry,and interactive lecture designed to lead the audience on ajourney exploring gender roles, sexuality, and societalperspectives that challenge people to be themselves. The author of Gender Outlaw: On Men, Women, and the Rest ofUs, Bornstein lives and works in San Francisco. Formerly callingherself a transsexual lesbian, she now prefers that the questionof her identity be answered with "to be announced." In May 1986, Bornstein underwent a male-to-female sex changeoperation which, along with hormone treatments, made Bornsteinanatomically a woman. After a year of living as a woman, shesaid she realized she wasn't comfortable with her gender.
