Chapter 3

[In Chapter 2, Dan accepts an invitation to Mike's house. He's to stop by Mike's house to see Mike's flower garden and they plan to have drinks and go out for dinner.]

Dan thought the afternoon lasted an eternity. He wanted to leave his office early, but telephone calls interrupted his work. The vice president for marketing stopped by with plans for a new proposal. June, his secretary, announced she might quit. The woman she was dating had asked her to move in and June thought they might move into a new home and a new job in Texas.

"Why, why, why?" Dan muttered. He knew time passes at the same speed whether the afternoon be filled with anticipation or rejection.

Dan managed to slip out of his office a few minutes early and drive home to his house on Castle Boulevard. He left the car in the driveway, opened the front door and kicked his mail across the entry hallway. As he rushed upstairs to his bedroom he loosened his tie and started unbuttoning his shirt. He tossed the tie on the bureau and dropped the rest of his clothes to the floor. He stood naked and looked at his body in the mirror.

"I've got to get back to the Y," he said to himself. He moved his hands down his body, caressing the hair on his chest and pausing to pinch his left nipple. He used his fingers to comb his pubic hair into place and then gave his penis a loving tug.

"Ole, Chum, let's hope you get some action tonight."

He walked into the bathroom and started the water running in the shower. As he washed his lean body, he realized his penis was getting hard.

"Don't anticipate too much, you've been disappointed before."

He dried his body and stuffed the still-hard dick into his Calvin Klein briefs. He covered the briefs with tan shorts from the Polo section of Dillard's at Summit Mall. After he was dried, he put on a well-starched, blue shirt just back from the Fussy Cleaner.

"Looks good enough to walk through anyone's flower garden," Dan said to the mirror. Then, he patted the front of his shorts, "Chum, here we go and let's have fun tonight."

The drive to Mike's house off Merriman Road was short. Dan smiled at the handsome man in the mirror of his car. "First date in months. But, going to look at someone's flower garden, you gotta do better than that."

Dan turned into Mike's driveway. Mike's house was one of the many Tudor style homes built in Akron around 1927. Built well, the houses stood the test of time and still looked good. The front yard was manicured, weeds wouldn't dare grow in this yard. Flowers spilled out of flower beds, providing a full palate of color. Dan ran from his car to the front door and rang the doorbell. He chuckled to himself when he realized he had run.

"Mustn't appear too anxious," he laughed to himself. He rang the doorbell again.
And, again.
And, again.

"Right house," Dan thought to himself checking his note with Mike's address and telephone number. Dan walked back to the car and telephoned Mike from the car phone. No answer.

"I've been stood up," Dan said, his mood swinging from elation to rejection. "I've been stood up again, damn, damn, damn." He turned the key and started the motor of his car. He turned around in the driveway and sped toward Merriman Road. Just as he reached the road, another car turned quickly into the driveway and slammed on the brakes. The cars stopped inches from each other.

[Who is in the other car? Who stood up Dan before? Do Dan's mood swings indicate he should get professional help? Find the answers to these and other questions in the next chapter of Tales of Akron.]
