Chapter 15

[In Chapter 14, Mike and Dan had cuddled down for a night of love making and, perhaps, sleep, when the doorbell rang.]

They held each other and laughed while they pulled the blankets over their bodies. Then, they heard the doorbell ring. There, in the driveway, was a police car.

"I'll get it," said Mike. He put on a bathrobe and walked toward to the door. He looked back at Dan, who stood, still nude, in the middle of the room. "I'll be right back," Mike said.

Dan could hear voices at the front door. He realized once again how comforting the low, quiet male voices can be. But, despite the comfort of the voices, he shivered. He wanted to close the window, but he was afraid the policeman would hear his footsteps. So, he stood still.

"That was an interesting visit," Mike shouted to Dan as he came down the hall to the bedroom. Mike stopped and looked at Dan. "You've not moved since I left. You're cold. What's wrong? Why didn't you close the window?"

Mike opened his bathrobe and embraced Dan. When their naked bodies touched, Mike felt the goodness of being next to Dan. He was aroused by the touch of his lover.

"What...what did the policeman want?" Dan asked.

"A couple of cars have been stolen in the neighborhood and several people have reported peeping-Toms. The officer wanted to know if we'd seen anything. OK, as you were. Back in bed."

"Let's have a drink. I need to relax before we go to bed."

"The visit from the policeman scared you, didn't it?"

      "Yeah, a little," said Dan.

Mike grinned at Dan. "I tell you what, I'll get the bed warm and you open that bottle of white wine that's in the refrigerator. We can drink it up here in the bed. Who knows what might happen. I might let you have your way with me."

"That sounds good to me," said Dan. "I'll be right back." He paused at the door. "Who are the peeping-Toms? Men? Women? Local teenagers?"

"Men. A couple of men. Grubby. One has a limp."

Dan hurried to the kitchen and opened the refrigerator. He found a new bottle of Chardonnay that Mike had bought at West Point Market. He put the bottle on a tray and placed the opener next to the bottle. He got the wine glasses, napkins and filled a glass bowl with crackers and added some cheese to the tray. Dan smiled to himself. He had a good lover. He had a good life. They would drink the wine, make love and tomorrow this fear that made his heart beat so fast would be gone.

As Dan turned he saw a movement outside the window. The fear came back. He could hear his heart pounding. He put the tray down and walked to the window. He needed to prove to himself that the movement was only a leaf. It couldn't be a couple of grubby men.

As he leaned forward to look out the window, a face looked through the glass at him.

"Hey, Clarence, this is where them fag-boys live. We found 'em."

Dan stumbled backward. He grabbed the telephone and called to Mike, "Get down here, Mike, I need you." He started dialing 911 and the phone went dead.

"Mike, they cut the telephone line. Mike, Mike."

As Mike ran into the kitchen, he saw the back door explode. Glass fell across the floor and standing there framed in the doorway were the two men who had raped Dan.

"Thought you got rid of us, didn't you fag-boy. You ain't rid of us, yet. And, we ain't through with you. We're gonna git even with you for what you did to both of us. Vince, here, gotta limp, now. But, we gonna get both of you this time,"Clarence said.

[Dan and Mike weren't ready for guests. Miss Manners says you shouldn't drop in unannounced. What happens to those who do? Find out in the next exciting chapter of Tales of Akron.]
