In our gay community, we are kicking off World AIDS Day activities
by offering free, anonymous HIV testing and a staffed information
table at Gargoyles Niteclub on Friday, November 29 from 9:00 P.M.
to 1:00 A.M. Gargoyles is located at 271 S. Main Street in downtown
Akron. The HIV testing, done on a walk-in basis, is co-sponsored by
the Akron Health Department and the Community AIDS Network.
Saturday, November 30, Tear-Ez will play host to the 'World AIDS
Day Eve Benefit, featuring 17 of Northeast Ohio's finest gay
entertainers, including Candi Carter, Lynette Crawford, Jimmy
Crooks, Vince D'Amato, Forest Layn, Big Mama, Phoebe McCall,
Ronnie Roberts, Miss Roxy, Robyn Samples, Amelia Sinclair, Cocoa
Starr, Patrick Steele, Miss Stephanie, Samantha Styles, Nichole
Summers, and Danyel Vasquez. Tear-Ez, located at 360 S. Main
Street, will run two different shows that evening at 7:30 P.M. and
11:00 P.M. The Community AIDS Network of Akron and the New
Hope Alternative Therapy Research of Cleveland will be the
beneficiaries of the dollars raised at the show. Sunday, December 1,
we invite you to worship at the spiritual center of your choice, and
then join us at one of several community fairs and events. Border's
Books and Music at 3737 W. Market will be hosting Community
Drug Board's World AIDS Day information table from 10:00 A.M.
til 2:00 P.M.. 'A Day Without Art' will be the theme at both the Akron
Art Museum at 70 E. Market from 12:00 P.M. til 5:00 P.M. and at the
Contemporary Arts Project at 907 Portage Trail #3, who will also
feature a staffed information table, courtesy of the Community Drug
Board, from 1:00 P.M. til 5:00 P.M. Next, stop by the AIDS Holistic
Services Program and the Community AIDS Network
(665 and 667 N. Main Street, respectively) for joint open houses
which will run from 2:00 P.M. til 6:00 P.M.. Free refreshments,
snacks, and information will be provided at both locations. Following
your afternoon activities, join us at midnight at the Interbelt Nite Club,
70 N. Howard, for a spectacular World AIDS Day Show featuring
Danyel Vasquez, Ashley Simone, Victoria London, Isis Soul, and
KiArra Fontaine, as well as the Kent State and University of Akron's
Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual Student Unions who will be providing
between-number entertainment. All door proceeds that evening will
benefit the Community AIDS Network of Akron.

   Local universities kick off their World AIDS Day Awareness
activities beginning on Sunday. The Northeast Ohio Universities
College of Medicine (NEOUCOM) will host a partial display of the
AIDS Memorial Quilt from December 2 through December 6. The
quilt will be displayed in the Atrium, located at 4209 State Route 44
in Rootstown from 8:00 A.M. til 5:00 P.M. daily. Viewing of the quilt
is free and open to the public. The University of Akron will be featuring
AIDS Awareness films Tuesday, December 3 through Thursday,
December 5 from 11 A.M. til 1:00 P.M. in the Hilton Room of the
Gardner Student Center, with a staffed information table Tuesday and
free condom distribution
