What's Goin' On
by Uncle Don
As we enter into the holiday season, full
swing, we need not forget
the real meaning of Christmas, and the sharing and caring that goes
with it. This is a time that we should especially take the opportunity
to help those, in our community, that are less fortunate. In the past,
the task force had coordinated a fund raiser where people would buy
a card for a dollar, at the local bars, which went towards a food drive.
I don't know if that is happening this year, or not. If it isn't, the bars,
themselves, should orchestrate some type of program. Perhaps a
contest between the bars???
The holiday season kicks off at Harmony House
and Micha House
on Saturday, December 7th, with a tree decorating party at each
facility. The decorating starts at noon, with Christmas caroling
afterwards. If you would like to participate, show up at Harmony
House at noon, and bring an ornament with you. Further inside this
publication, you will read a short synopsis of how the Art From The
Heart Committee was formulated. The article was written by Mary
Lyn Evans, who, along with Eric Jones, were co-chairs of this event.
May Lyn was the first president of Summit
AIDS Housing several
years ago, and has been going strong ever since. What a truly
wonderful person she is, and a great pleasure to work with. Although
she is not a member of this community (as well as most of the people
mentioned in her article) we can never repay her / them for the time
and effort that was spent on that successful event.
While we are on the subject of Art From The
Heart, take note that
Art From The Heart II will take place October 18th, 1997 in the same
great location.
Co-chairs for the 97 event are Mike David
and myself, Don
Brown. If you are interested in helping out, or have special expertise,
please contact me at Adams Street. Before leaving this subject, one
more item; a party for all of the volunteers that took part in the event
will be held in Pecs, Monday, January 20th, from 6pm to 9pm.
According to a poll conducted by Men's Health, the top five causes
of
male stress are:
Jobs 56%
Lack of time 54%
Information overload 35%
Relationships 34%
Dealing with traffic 30%
