| never happen again in future history.
On the one side, we're being attacked by the radical
religious right, and on the other side there are straight
people who wish they were gay, because it's such a fun,
"trendy" thing to be, right now.
As per the issue of gay marriage, we have never
had
this option before. This could cause quite a dilemma with
many otherwise stable, long term gay relationships.
The day after we get the right to marry could see
a
morning of real trouble for couples all over the US. What
if you figured on getting married all along, but he or she
never had that in mind, because it was never before
possible? It's a whole new thing to get all freaked out
about. Perhaps you should start discussing the matter
with your partner now. This might defuse an otherwise
unknown, ticking time bomb.
As soon as gay marriage becomes a reality, we will
be
sized up against the straights to determine who's got the
higher rate of divorce.
Attorneys will have a whole new source of wealth
to tap
into when gay couples start taking their unreconcilable
differences into their chambers.
Not to worry though sweet gay people. I don't think
we
will ever find ourselves in Utopia. We will always be a
minority; probably maintaining the same average of 6 to
10% of the population everywhere on Earth. That is the
natural way of things. Since there will always be more of
them than there are of us, they will always have the power
to keep us in check. We will never be allowed to reach a
status of true cultural elitism recognized by everyone
--able to fully enjoy all of the benefits of gay life and being
able to make the choice of having a family, with a marriage
and children.
But, relax. We know how to have our cake and eat
it too!
We always have. So what if the rest of the world doesn't
know just how wonderful it is to be this free.
I read a report, one time, that claimed that gay
men are
the one group of people that are the most satisfied with the
way they live their lives. I bet lesbians were a very close
second in that survey.
What am I trying to say with all of this? I don't
know.
I'm just kicking around some weird ideas. JL.
