What's Goin' On

In our last issue I
had written about the fact that I had not
seen anything concerning the annual Christmas food drive
sponsored by any AIDS organization. For several years NEOTFA
has sponsored such a program, and I'm glad to see that the
Community AIDS Network has decided to carry on that tradition.
Snow Man cards were made available at most bars on December
13th. For $1, you purchase a card and print your name on it and
the seller then prominently displays it. The money goes to PWAs
at Christmas to provide them with food vouchers, which allow
them to purchase items that they may not have otherwise been
able to afford. I urge you to support this worthwhile project.
I know that I have
often used this space to bemoan the fact
that I don't believe this community sufficiently supports the
various fund raising activities throughout the year. But, as I sit
here writing this, I am but reminded of the fund raisers that
occurred just since last October, to name a few: Art From The
Heart at the AES to benefit CAN, Two fund raisers for Violet's
Cupboard, one at The Carousel, and one at Club 358, Rangers at
Adams Street for Can, Humane Society benefit at Roseto Club,
Stonewall Akron at The Roseto Club, David Cook memorial fund
raiser at Tear-Ez for CAN, World AIDS Day Eve at Tear-Ez for
New Hope Research and CAN, Buckeye Betty Football at
Tear-Ez for CAN, World AIDS Day at Interbelt for CAN, Bill
Bradley benefit at Gargoyles for CAN, and I imagine I've missed
some other ones, but all of these listed here have occurred in the
last 3 months. Stretch it out over a year, and it would probably
number around 50, or so; all targeted to the same community.
You are our source
of funds and our source of strength. Most
of these agencies couldn't do half as good a job without your
support. I guess I'll just have to eat my words. Please pass the
