What's Goin' On
by Uncle Don
The City of Cleveland
is joining the list of major cities to
host a circuit party with the introduction of Olympus 97 to be
held on Sat. Feb. 22nd.. Some of you may be familiar with circuit
parties such as the Black Party in New York, the White Party in
Florida, the Red Party in Columbus and the Steel Party in
Pittsburgh Olympus 97 promises to be the biggest dance party
to hit this area, festivities begin on Friday Feb. 21st. with a block
party at Visions, The Grid and Metronome, the event itself will
be held at the Cuyahoga County Courthouse on the 22nd. from
8:30p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning. A Tea Dance at Numbers
on the 23rd. to top off the event. If this is anything like The Black
Party in New York (which I once attended) this area is in for one
HOT PARTY! It is also noteworthy that some of the proceeds
from this event will be going to Lesbian / Gay Community
Service Center of Greater Cleveland. Tickets are $30 at the
door.
Thanks to your generosity,
the "Snowman" cards on sale at
the local bars helped raise several hundred dollars for PWA's
during this holiday season.
Time Magazines, "Man
of the Year" is Dr. David Ho,
director of the Aaron Diamond Aids Research Center in New
York City. Dr. Ho, through his research has fundamentally
changed the way that scientists look at the AIDS virus. His
research has set the stage for an enormously productive shift
in the treatment of AIDS away from the later stages of illness,
to the critical early days of infection. A cure? No, but a ray of
hope, and we have gotten to this point through the collective
efforts of thousands of scientists, researchers, and physicians,
as well as the brilliant work of Dr. Ho.
It is nice to see that
Time Magazine has finally gotten on the
bandwagon and chosen as their Man of the Year, someone that
the Gay community had long ago chosen as their "Man Of The
Year".
Mark your calender;
Jan. 16 for the opening of Lips Together,
Teeth Apart at the Weathervane Playhouse.
Look for a Ms. Gay
Akron to be crowned at the Interbelt
sometime in Feb., as well as a Mr. Gay Akron to be held at
Adams Street the same month.
Now some brief comments
concerning the article that appears
later in this publication written by TerryZ. His Opinion; titled Unity
Is Strength - Money Is Power pretty much speaks for itself. Most
assuredly in unity there is strength, however I am sorry to say that
the Gay community in the Akron / Canton area does not embrace
this principle. We are a very fragmented group, we don't even
appear to like ourselves at times. Why is there such wide gap
between Lesbians and Gay males? Let's have some joint events,
get to know one and other, put aside the fact that we have different
sexual desires and fantasies and work together as a unified group
towards our common goals.
