What's Up

    Q: What are the strengths of American Gay Culture? Even
though we have certainly made tremendous contributions to
society in general, why do we lack the unity that is necessary
to give our culture full citizenship in America?

    A: Our strength is in our numbers, and in our pocketbooks.
We, as a unified group, are estimated to number 35 million in
America alone. Gay people are found in all walks of life and
professions, with a multi-billion dollar pocketbook. We must
use these strengths to demand full recognition of our rights as
tax paying law abiding citizens.

    Q: How can we, as individuals, promote this goal without a
consensus of unity amongst the various factions contained in
Gay America?

    A: This question, sort of answers itself. All you can do is
support the idea of a unified Gay America; be you Gay,
Lesbian, Bi-sexual, Transgender or of any other ilk that fits
into the "Gay" category. Support national organizations such
as; The Human Rights Campaign, The National Gay & Lesbian
Task Force, The American Civil Liberties Union, as well as
many other national organizations that promote Gay Rights.
At the grass roots level, support your local Gay communities.
Put your money to work for you by supporting local Gay or Gay
Friendly organizations and businesses. Boycott any that are
known to have Anti-Gay policy, either towards employee's, or
the community in general. I know that I have personally spent
money patronizing businesses whose policies are Anti-Gay, but
I will not in the future. We have many choices right here in the
Akron / Canton area: bars, florists, restaurants, book stores, art
galleries, antique shops, music stores, craft shops, theater, coffee
houses, clothing stores, etc. that are Gay owned, and \ or employee
Gay people. We should spend our Gay money at these businesses
whenever possible.

    Doing these things will not solve all of our problems, but they
will give us a good start towards Unity, and the Power to have our
voices heard... GAY POWER!!!
