What's Goin On
by Uncle Don

Recently I attended a cocktail party hosted by Harry Jackson
at his home in Medina County. The occasion was a kickoff party
to acquaint people in the Akron area with the upcoming Human Rights
Campaign Dinner. For those of you who are not familiar with the HRCF,
it is a political organization based in Washington D.C., which works
toward the goal of an America where gay and lesbian people are
ensured of their basic equal rights and can be open, honest, and safe
at home, at work, and in the community.

This years dinner will be held at the Marriott Hotel Key Center in
Cleveland on April 19th, tickets are $125.00 each. Part of the nights
activities include a silent auction and a featured speaker
(not yet announced).

One of the main reasons for the cocktail party was to sign up people
who would act as table captains in the Akron area. Several of those in
attendance agreed to sign up in order to generate more participation in
this area. If you are interested in going to the dinner you can contact
Dennis Fitzpatrick at Cafe 115 from 2pm ~ 8pm Mon. ~ Fri. (253-4114)
or fax: (253-1877). if you are interested in learning more about the HRCF
you can contact them at (202) 628-4160 or by writing to HRCF 1101 14th
St. NW. Washington D.C. 20005.

QUEENS NIGHT OUT which was a two night affair proved to be
quite a successful event. On Saturday, Jan 11th the party was held at
Tear-Ez and raised over $800.00. On Sunday the 12th the party
continued at the Interbelt Night Club and raised an additional $2001.00.
All of the proceeds went to benefit Violets Cupboard a local AIDS
organization. A great big thanks to all of the people who participated in
this event..... Something new will be happening at Club 358, stripers on
Thursday nights.... The production currently at the Weathervane
Playhouse, "Lips Together Teeth Apart", is a must see for our
community. Tickets are $14.00; rest assured you will enjoy this
performance..... The Pecs Sisters will be making their debut on
Wednesday night Feb. 12th at Adams St. Along with the Sisters there
will be many surprise guests. Proceeds from this performance will
benefit The Community Aids Network. Specking of Pecs It will be
going Country every other Saturday beginning Jan.18th...... Look
for J.R. Vasquez, noted D.J. from NYC, to work his magic at the
Interbelt on Good Friday March 28th.
