This 'n' That
by TerryZ
The Highland Theater
is with us again. One of the last
real movie theaters in Akron has reopened its doors as what
is hoped to be an Akron version of Cleveland's Cedar Lee.
Wallace & Gromit,
an animated comedy feature, that has
been widely acclaimed is being shown on the BIG screen from
Jan. 23 to Jan. 26. A Humphrey Bogart Festival is now showing.
Too late now.
Wouldn't it be wonderful
to be able to go and see a movie
such as "Jeffrey" right here in Akron? Well, that is most likely
what you will get if you support the Highland. Let's not lose what
may be our last chance to have a real "Art Theater" in our
hometown.
I am not a theater
critic, but I know what I like. And,
Weathervane Playhouse's presentation of "Lips Together, Teeth
Apart", which I was fortunate enough to see debut on the 16th,
was an extraordinary way to spend a dreary January evening.
Lots of laughs, and lots of captivating pauses, causing one to
ponder. The actors each had spotlight performances, wherein
they thought out-loud. I felt this was an intriguing device in the
play, and made me feel as though I knew secrets that the other
actors did not know. This is a lot of bang for your entertainment
buck. I am not qualified to comment on the actors, but, to me,
they were all wonderful.
Is anyone reading the
articles in What's Up? We have been
trying to throw stuff at you to either make you think, or piss you
off, or both, for months. Due to the vast lack of response from
our readers, we have been wondering if the Gay communities of
the Akron / Canton area have any interest in anything
concerning our lifestyles other than sex. The cover of this issue
is again trying to address the fact that Gay men and Lesbians
have many common issues facing them, and that we should try
to combine our efforts. We hear from many people, that we
know personally. regarding Gay Rights. How about hearing
from you? Why do all advances on Gay issues occur
elsewhere? Why Not Ohio? Are you afraid that responding to
us will reveal your dark side? I guess we'll see.
