FREAKIN' COMPUTERS MAN!
by James Lehman
I finally got it! We now have a CGI script running
on our service. CGI stands for Common Gateway Interface.
I wrote a script in a language called Perl5 (well, OK, I
seriously modified a script out of a book) that allows
people browsing the Rainbow-Akron site to add their
comments to our virtual guest book. So now YOU can
actually contribute your own message to our Internet
site for all the world to see. So, we expect all of you
on our service, and those reading this off the Web, to
leave us a message! (please.) :o)
Check out http://www.rainbow-akron.com/ and look at
our new guest book. Now that we have the ability to run
interactive content on our server, look out! We have
plans to really juice things up at the Rainbow-Akron
site! We also have a lot of snazzy new animated GIF
images. Those are those cute little pictures that keep
wiggling around.
Fun Time at CAN's Reverse Raffle
by James Lehman
Well, the annual Community AIDS Network Reverse Raffle
was a lot of fun. If you weren't there, you should have
been. Even though Terry and I didn't win the $1000 grand
prize, we still had a great time. The food was very good,
and plentiful, and there was a well stocked open bar.
(*hic* excuse me!) The last five guys in the raffle opted to
split the pot five ways, rather than take a chance at losing
the whole thing. All five people had to agree for this
decision. Pity, I think I would have gone for the gusto!
There were lots of consolations prizes given out along the
way, but if you weren't there "Did You Win?" -- "Noooooooo!"
(I guess you had to be there.)
You know, when you get right down to it, The various
fund raisers, like this one, Art From The Heart, and others
are truly worth their cost just for their entertainment
value. They all seem to attract a fun crowd. They're great
opportunities to meet other people concerned about our
community's issues, AND they raise money for very worth
while causes! It takes a lot of volunteers donating their
time, goods, or services to make them happen. Having been to
both of these events, I look forward to being at the next
ones. I'll be there. Will you?
JL :o)
