Discrimination
by Virgin Frost
In response to my last article there was both pro and con
feedback and I welcome it, for it helps me to become more
closely attuned with the opinions of the gay community of
which I am a part of and strengthens my bonds with it.
Still, Canton's gay community is lacking in unity. People
nit-pick over so many unimportant issues, that reason and
logic are shot to hell and the important matters that confront
us all are lost in the fog that we create. The predjudice at the
gay bars, clubs and gatherings is as bad as the verbal and
physical abuse that we suffer at the hands of the so-called
straight community. We spend more time tearing down each
other than we do trying to do anything worthwhile for the
community as a whole.
There are different aspects to everyone's personality, and
we should celebrate the diversity within our community
instead of dividing it into little cliques. It seems as though we
are in a giant chess game, just waiting to see how many
pieces we can take of the other sides, and we are more
interested in winning for our side than we are in winning for
everybody. Thus, we are our own worst enemy.
Do we go out to the bars and clubs to have a good time,
or to gossip and spread rumors about each other and start
fights? There always seems to be a fight or an arguement
going on about who looked at whom or other things just as
stupid. We should complain to the management of these
places. We should not have to put up with being harassed by
a bunch of rowdies, when all we are there for is to relax and
have fun.
