entities not following the laws of the land? The United States is supposed to
support religious freedoms. Many of the early immigrants to this nation fled to
these shores to escape the persecutions that were facing them in their
homelands. Now many of us are facing these same challenges ourselves as
the religious right wing continues to gain a stronger base of operations from
within our own government.
When will we as a group, a sexual minority or whatever you want to call
us, realize that this threat is real? What will it take to make us see we are being
targeted as an evil force by these people? Those who espouse love and
compassion, while promoting hate and prejudice are just not the people that I
want in control of my life.
We must come together into a single cohesive mind set, not one that just
supports gay rights, but one that realizes that there are many differerences in
all of humankind, and that all of these differences are worthy of recognition as
having a valid place in our society.
Certainly there are many good things to say about the values of faith.
There are many people who would not be able to survive without having a
structure of some sort of religious belief in their lives. Many churches have
made great humanitarian contributions to the world, some people of great
faith spend the entirety of their lives doing nothing but good for others, with
tremendous personal sacrifice. But these are not the people with whom we
need be concerned,
We must concern ourselves with the Pat Robertsons, the Jerry Falwells,
the James Dobsons (this list could contain thousands of people) and all the
others that are out to form a exclusively Christian nation in the United States. I
believe that power and money are the true focus of these self serving
hypocrites. Do you think that it is possible that the influence of individuals
such as these had an impact on our governments response to the AIDS
epidemic? If you consider who was President at the time, and the relationship
between these individuals and that President, then there should be very little
doubt in your minds.
How many people have died because of the moralistic pressures that
these sorts of people place on the rest of society? I am not just referring to
AIDS, what about all of the people who have been murdered because of the
hatred that these people teach? The killing of a gay person in this country has
become an acceptable price to pay to further their agendas, and the court
system has not been very diligent in prosecuting the people responsible for
these crimes to the fullest extent of the law. Any crime that is committed out of
hate of a persons status in society should be considered as a hate crime.
Look around you and realize what is happening all over the world. People
are dying everyday, because of the agendas of religious extremists, and the
United States of America is no exception. We must become involved in our
destiny and the first thing that we must do is make ourselves known. We must,
if possible, COME OUT.
